Firm Charges Ex-Celt Great Bill Russell Owes $119G

AP Wire

A lawsuit was filed yesterday in Chicago against former Celitics basketball star Bill Russell to recover money allegedly owed in a business deal involving the leasing of equipment to produce images on sports apparel.

The suit alleges that William F. Russell Sr. and his company, Center Court Productions of Redmond, Washington, owe nearly $119,000 to Beacon Funding Corp. of Northbrook, Illinois, as a result of a default on the lease of the equipment.

"Some of the checks sent by Russell's company as lease payments to my client were returned by the bank for non-sufficient funds," said Chicago lawyer Arthur Raphael of Teller, Levit and Silvertrust, an attorney for Beacon Funding.
